Managing inventory accurately and efficiently remains a challenge for many businesses. Traditional methods often involve manual counting, barcode scanning, or spreadsheets, which can be time-consuming and prone to errors. Metralab's TORY® to go product offers rapid inventory checking with geolocation for a fraction of the cost of an equivalent fixed reader infrastructure.

Tory ® RFID is a fully automated robot that can travel through any storage space and perform a full inventory of RFID tagged stock in real time. TORY® to go is a reduced cost device that is pushed through a store area by hand. Because it's pushed rather than fully autonomous it can be deployed for less than half the cost, also very low cost compared to any form of fixed RFID infrastructure. And because it's pushed unwanted obstacles such as cable ramps and steps can be overcome. Despite the low cost it still delivers not only an inventory count but the X-Y location of every asset with an accuracy of about 1 metre. Inventory is incredibly fast compared with manual counting or using a handheld scanner.

How RFID Technology Transforms Inventory Management

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) uses radio waves to identify and track items automatically. Unlike barcodes, RFID tags do not require line-of-sight scanning. This means multiple items can be read simultaneously, even if they are inside boxes or stacked on shelves.

Key advantages of RFID in inventory include:

  • Faster inventory counts: Employees can scan entire storage racks in seconds.

  • Improved accuracy: Automated reading reduces human errors.

  • Real-time tracking: Inventory data updates instantly.

  • Geolocation: Not only is the inventory counted, it also records where it is to an accuracy of about 1 metre.

  • Better loss prevention: Easier to detect missing or misplaced items.

TORY to go integrates our Lime software, delivering user-friendly middleware that can be applied to businesses of all sizes. This combination of hardware and software creates a seamless experience from tagging items to generating reports. And there's even an api available to share data with downstream systems.

The Future of Inventory Management
