The RoHS Directive stands for "the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment". This new EU Directive will ban the placing on the EU market of new electrical and electronic equipment containing more than agreed levels of lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants. The Directive and associated UK RoHS regulations came into force on 1 July 2006. In the UK the National Weights and Measures Laboratory (NWML) has been awarded the contract to set up the UK’s national RoHS enforcement body. For further information, go to rohs.gov.uk All product shipped from July 1st from Codegate will comply with the RoHS directive, although in the short term the product may not be RoHS compliant. That is because the directive applies to NEW products. Provided the product was manufactured and landed in the EC prior to July 1st the UK interpretation of the directive allows that product can be traded. From July 1st all new product manufactured within the EC or products being imported into the EC must be ROHS compliant. So Company’s are free to trade out their existing stocks and are free to trade all products supplied by Codegate. Customers need to be aware that many products will 'end of life' and will no longer be available once stocks deplete after July 1st, whilst other products must be ordered under a new RoHS compliant part number. The directive applies to spare parts as well as finished products. We will update this news article as we receive clear information from our top manufacturers.
