Hand Held Products and Codegate help Mitsubishi to track cars - using Dolphins!
Codegate, a leading supplier of mobile data communications systems, has provided Mitsubishi Motors with a highly effective solution for keeping track of its vehicles - Dolphin® 9500 mobile computers from Hand Held Products. Hand Held Products is the world’s leading supplier of image-based data capture systems, lead by its exclusive Adaptus™ Imaging Technology brand.
Mitsubishi is one of the world’s largest car manufacturers. In the UK, Mitsubishi Motors imports some 23,000 cars each year. Most pass through its Portbury Preparation Centre prior to distribution to over 120 dealers. Some 500 cars move through Portbury every week and about 6,000 vehicles are stored onsite.
Mitsubishi started to explore sophisticated tracking methods. It decided to extend the infrastructure of its existing Local and Wide Area Networks, and to provide its workforce with radio terminals so that they could update the system remotely.
Katheryn Davies, Head of Mitsubishi’s Project Team, says: “We had to select a company with both the expertise and resources to meet the stringent demands of our project.” She asked Codegate, Mitsubishi’s preferred supplier, to source a rugged device with a Microsoft Windows platform and powerful functionality. Codegate recommended Hand Held Products’ Dolphin® 9500 mobile computers, which met all of Mitsubishi’s criteria.
The Dolphin® 9500 is crammed with the latest technology, and gives exceptional performance levels, even in difficult lighting conditions or with poor quality bar codes. It is light but extremely durable and easy to use, and is packed with features that maximise speed, efficiency and accuracy.
Codegate subsequently installed a wireless network in two compounds at Portbury. The initial project has been very successful. Katheryn Davies remarks: “We are hoping to extend the number of hand held devices used, as well as the area of coverage.
